A Novel Fault Let-Through Energy Based Fault Location for LVDC Distribution Networks

Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) distribution systems have recently been considered as an alternative approach to electrical system infrastructure they provide the additional flexibility and controllability required facilitate integration of more low carbon technologies (LCTs). However, DC protection and, specifically high accuracy fault location, recognised a key challenge facilitating post-fault network maintenance. Most existing location techniques rely on current derivative or communications-based methods that are either very sensitive noise require level data synchronisation. Fault energy has recognized reliable indicator accurate estimations. Therefore, this paper develops mathematical model for describing during transient period faults. The method subsequently proposes new let-through based working strategy proposed does not synchronisation regardless voltage, current, size converters connected LVDC feeder. capabilities validated against different faults applied test in PSCAD/EMTDC shown be than methods.
